Summer can be hard on us Muslim women who prefer to dress modestly. Keeping our arms and legs covered in temperatures above 80 degrees is difficult, with limited options to stay cool. That’s why Fall swinging around comes as such a blessing. Bulky sweaters, trousers, long-sleeved dresses, scarves, boots. The perfect Fall wardrobe is the perfect modest wardrobe, so it’s really a time for us to shine.
Covering up and looking super stylish are easy to accomplish during the Fall season. Let’s dive into some ways to make sure you’re staying warm and looking your best for the next few months.
1. Invest in a beautiful Fall coat.
Doing something outside is the most responsible way to hangout with the people you love during this pandemic. Sometimes you get all dolled up and cute, only to cover up the outfit with a coat and never take it off. To avoid hiding your outfit behind a coat, make your coat part of your outfit! Trench coats and leather jackets are two examples of timeless pieces that never go out of style. For more everyday wear, pick something in a more neutral color like black, gray, or beige. If you want a coat that makes a statement, get something with a pop of color or a cool print, like houndstooth.
2. Get a neutral-colored shawl.
I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite parts about colder weather is cuddling up in a blanket inside. Wearing a shawl is the most acceptable alternative to wearing a blanket out in public. Shawls can be thrown over all types of outfits to stay warm, but the right kind can add a fashionable flair to your look. You can add a belt to better define your waist, or you can stay loose and billowy. If you prefer a bit of jazz rather than neutral colors, go for a colorful plaid or cool texture.
3. Experiment with different layers.
Fall is the perfect time to experiment with layers. If your legs get cold, swap out your regular leggings with fleece-lined ones. You can wear these underneath loose jeans for added warmth or on their own below a long tunic with tall boots. For the top, you can mix and match your button ups with pullovers to achieve cute academia looks while also staying toasty. A nice denim jacket or soft cashmere cardigan can usually be thrown on top of most t-shirts to achieve a cozy casual look.
4. Throw a midi skirt into the closet.
For a girlier approach, try a midi skirt. Corduroy looks are still in, and they have the benefit of looking both flattering on all body types and warm. These can be paired with tights underneath, and don’t forget fleece-lined tights if it’s going to be a chilly night. You can opt for a more fitted look or go for a flowy, pleated style.
Conclusion
Dressing up this Fall season does not have to be stressful! For the rare times you do get to go out and look cute, remember to think of Fall as an opportunity to show off all the cool ways we stay covered and look good.
