My Top 9 Tips For Applying Makeup

My Top 9 Tips For Applying Makeup

There are so many methods out there for applying makeup. Some people swear by their routines and others may not agree. What if I were to tell you that you can use items at home to make your eyelashes thicker, or that you can easily get rid of crow’s feet with one simple product. It doesn’t matter if you are new to makeup or if you’re a professional, tips are always useful. Do you want to get your money’s worth out of your products? Well, the best way to do that is, use your products for multiple purposes. If you want some tips on how to apply your makeup, keep reading my top 10 tips for applying makeup!

Don’t Go to Light or to Dark with Foundation

You want to match foundation as close as possible to your skin tone. So whether that be with the help of the internet or you go to get foundation matched professionally. Foundation should “disappear” when you apply it. You want to blend foundation all the way into your neck. If you go too light or dark you can end up with the "eagle" look. To apply foundation correctly you should:
  1. Use two shades. The first shade can be ever so slightly more dark than your natural color, and the other should match with your own skin tone.
  2. Apply the lighter shade of foundation on the center parts of your face, and the dark shade on the outer parts of your face.
  3. Make sure you blend the product into your neck to create a finished look.

Make Sure Your Foundation and Primer Complement Each Other

You want to make sure your foundation and primer compliment each other. What I mean by this is you want to make sure the foundation and primer have the same base ingredient. For example, lets say your foundation has an oil base and your primer is water based. This would cause the products to repel each other, and that will cause your makeup to not last. You want to make sure they are the same so your makeup up lasts and is easy to blend.

Get Rid of Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet can be very difficult to hide when you apply makeup. As many know, foundation loves to stick and show any imperfections on your face. Fortunately, there is a simple fix to prevent crow’s feet from showing through your makeup. You can apply a generous amount of primer to the area before applying your makeup to prevent creasing and cracking!

Know What Brushes Are Used for What

Brushes are extremely important. How your makeup comes out depends on your application process. You really want to know which brush is used for which makeup product. It can be hard to remember which brush is used for which product, so try setting up a system. A quick rundown to help you is big fluffy brushes are good for products like powder or blush and small brushes are used for products that require more precision, like eyeliner and eye shadow.

Apply Foundation in a Downward Motion

Make sure you apply foundation with a downward motion! You'll want to do this because  everyone has a light layer of peach fuzz on their face. If you were to apply foundation upwards this would cause the hair to stand straight up, which would highlight the hair on your face. Applying foundation downwards will give you a smooth look.

Don’t Pull on Your Eyelids When Applying Eyeliner

There are a few reasons you don’t want to pull on your eyelids, one reason is that you can cause wrinkles prematurely. Another reason is that you may not get a nice even eyeliner application. How to easily apply eyeliner: 1. Begin to apply eyeliner in the center of your eyelid. Doing this will help you apply the width of eyeliner that you want. 2. To create the wing, start on the outside of your eye and trace the line all the way to the middle section of eyeliner you made in Step 1. 3. Finish by connecting your liner from the inner corner of your eye to the other line you made.

Use Baby Powder with Mascara to Get Thicker Lashes

If you want thicker eyelashes, use baby powder! Apply a coat of mascara and apply some baby powder to the mascara. Then, apply a second coat of mascara. This will instantly give your lashes thickness and length.

Apply Lipstick by Starting in the Middle of Your Lips

The best way to apply lipstick is by drawing an “x” where your cupid’s bow is, then you can apply the lipstick to the rest of your lips. Even if you do not want your cupid’s bow to stand out, you still want to apply lipstick this way. Apply the lipstick from the middle of your lips and move outwards for a flawless finish.

Know Your Skin’s Color Tone

Knowing your skin’s color tone is important. There are three kinds of skin color tones out there. There are warm, cool and neutral. It is important to know yours so you can find makeup products that have undertones in them that suit your color tone. A simple way to tell which color tone you have is to check the color of your veins. If you have bluish veins, you have a cool color tone, a greenish tinge to them means you have a warm color tone. If you can’t tell you most likely have a neutral tone.
